In 1780 the young Gilbert Motier – better known as La Fayette – crosses the Atlantic for the second time to bring help to the Thirteen Colonies fighting the British Empire in the Revolutionary War. This time, he makes the crossing on the frigate Hermione. In 1997 the Hermione-La Fayette Association starts the reconstruction of the Freedom's Frigate. From the oak wood waste a series of limited edition Opinels are also made: normal and round tip N°07, traditional N°08 and even N°13.
En 1780 le jeune Gilbert du Motier – mieux connu comme le marquis de La Fayette – traverse l'Atlantique déjà pour la deuxième fois pour aider les Treize colonies dans leur lutte d'indépendance contre l'Empire britannique. Il effectue cette traversée au bord de la frégate Hermione. En 1997 l'Association Hermione-La Fayette entreprend la reconstruction de la Frégate de la liberté. Du bois de chêne de chute des Opinels vont être également fabriqués: des N°07 normaux et à bout rond, des N°08 traditionnels et même des N°13.
1780-ban a fiatal Gilbert du Motier, ismertebb nevén La Fayette már másodszor kel át az Atlanti-óceánon, hogy az amerikai függetlenségi háborúban segítséget nyújtson a brit uralom alól elszakadni vágyó tizenhárom gyarmatnak. Az utat ezúttal az Hermione fregatton teszi meg. 1997-ben az Hermione-La Fayette Egyesület nekikezd, hogy újra megépítse a Szabadság fregattját. Az építés során keletkező tölgyfahulladékból pedig Opinel is készült: normál és kerekvégű 7-es, hagyományos 8-as, sőt, 13-as is.
